Wang Cong strengthens case for UFC signing, dominates Wu Yanan at Kunlun

Wang Cong def. Wu Yanan at Kunlun 95

Wang Cong may be a name MMA fans start hearing more often.

At today's Kunlun 95 event in Bangkok, Thailand, Wang Cong fought UFC veteran Wu Yanan in a featured MMA bout at 135 lbs. Wu has not fought since August of 2022 at UFC 278.

The fight between the two Chinese women went the distance, with all three judges awarding Wang the fight (30-27 x3). Wang, who has a kickboxing background, put it to work against Wu, unleashing a strong volume of strikes over fifteen minutes.

Wu's strategy was obvious from the opening bell: get Wang to the ground, where she's hardly been tested in her three previous MMA fights. However, Wang's takedown defense held strong and yielded no takedowns over the course of the fight. Instead, Wu at the steady streams of punches and kicks, resulting in serious swelling in the face. There was no question who the winner was by the end of the fight.

Wang Cong (4-0) trains at the UFC PI in Shanghai and has been on track to join the UFC since she began her MMA journey. She's also known for beating Valentina Shevchenko in a kickboxing fight in 2016.

Haven beaten a recent UFC athlete in Wu Yanan (13-7) only strengthens her case that she's ready to fight in the Octagon next.
